Agricultural Grassed Waterways

Broad and shallow, Grassed Waterways are erosion control channels that collect surface runoff on agricultural fields and, using natural depressions in the land, direct excess water to an outlet.

Washout areas may be an indicator that a grassed-waterway could be of benefit.

The vegetation within the waterway slows the flow of surface water and provides a buffer for sediments leaving your field. Although planting space is sacrificed in the process, wildlife habitat has been improved, water quality downstream has been enhanced and newly emerged crops stay above water and in the ground.
