The Morrow Soils and Water Conservation District held its annual Agricultural Study Tour with OSU Extension where we traveled to the state of West Virginia! 51 participants
traveled throughout the state for four days visiting a variety of agricultural and natural resources focused stops.
Day one included a an early departure to the West Virginia State Farm Museum in Point Pleasant. After a satisfactory tour the group visited the JQ Dickinson Salt Mine in Charleston.
On Day two the group took a mine cart through the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine before stopping for lunch at The Schoolhouse in White Sulfur Springs, allowing us to visit their neighbors, the Barnwood Living. Finally the day wound down with a stop a the New River Gorge Canyon Visitor Center in Lansing, West Virginia.
The third day of the trip led us to Weston where we visited Appalachian Glass for a blowing demonstration and then to The West Virginia Museum of American Glass. Before leaving Weston the group received a tour of the historic Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum. The afternoon led us to the West Virginia Botanical Gardens in Bridgeport.
Finally, our route home included two stops. First, the Dickinson Cattle Company in Barnesville, Ohio for a bus tour of their longhorn pastures. Second, the Ancient Flint Ridge Quarry in Glenford, Ohio.

The Morrow County soil and Water Conservation District hopes to offer another Agricultural Study Tour in the summer of 2025. These trips are offered to anyone, so be sure to watch for information on the tour in our future newsletters and Facebook page.
